I’m CERTAIN by now you’ve heard & are probably update to date with this whole Coronavirus situation. The global pandemic that has us all stationed indoors & not going out to any events, fun hangouts with friends, or even going to concerts or bars. We’re all stationed inside, therefore not dressing up to go out anywhere. Which, is the real bummer….
With this global crisis, I’ve been thinking alot about how things will change. And one thing I’ve been thinking about a lot is fashion. Of course because I’m into fashion & love hearing about the latest drops, and what’s coming out soon & what’s trending, but a lot of that doesn’t matter right now, and I wonder if it will matter even after this crisis is put to rest. One thing I've been looking into that I think will be the new standard going forward is shopping pre-owned items. Whether it be a consignment store, or local thrift store, I think repurposing clothing will be the next fashion standard & more customers will be trying to save their $, before making big impulse purchase.
For those like myself, unaware of the benefits of thrifting & second hand purchasing, it’s actually super beneficial to pretty much EVERYONE! It reduces the amount of clothing produced through a manufacturer. Reduces waste as well as pollution. Reselling & repurposing an item means it’s less likely to fill up landfills. Not only does it make items cheaper, and better for your wallet, but it also helps local & global communities too!
Sustainability has been talked about more & more in fashion, with brands making clothing more sustainable & helping out that way. I believe that will not only increase, but people might be shopping less, and trying to get the best brand,
for way less.
I wanted to bring this topic up on my blog, because it’s something I haven’t been quite knowledge on myself, but am really interested to start doing. I haven’t even really been thrifting, but that’s something I might even do more in the future too. While we can’t leave our houses just yet to browse our local thrift stores, I wanted to share some places online I found that you can shop at right now & browse their selection of thrifted goods. Depop is great for peer to peer shopping. Though it’s based in London, this is a great, local way to sell your items, as well as purchase items. You can buy & ship items locally, or internationally, and purchase through real people, at a really great price! These are items that people either don’t wear anymore, or didn’t get many wears out of, so they are looking to sell to someone that will wear it more than them. On this website, there’s more browsing you need to do, to find that perfect item you’re looking for, but if you look hard enough, you’ll be able to find a great steal!
Lowkey, Amazon is a GREAT WAY to find items for cheaper than retail. There’s been times I wanted something from Urban Outfitters & Amazon was selling that exact item for 40% cheaper AND will ship it to me that same day! This is more of a shopping hack, because most of what you buy from Amazon won’t be worn from someone else. But if you’re looking for a great price on items you want a deal on, Amazon is your best bet!
Streetwear
The GOAT APP is a great site to shop! Though they’re mostly known for buying & reselling sneakers, they recently adding clothing to their platform & you can find some super stylish pieces to match with a lot of your items you currently have. A lot of the brands they have under their belt are popular streetwear brands everyone already loves. And the high quality verification standard they have for their sneakers, is the same care & authenticity that goes into verifying their clothing as well! Great outlet to use if you’re looking for some super stylish threads, but not sure locally where to cop from.
You’ve probably heard of Stock X already. They are probably one of the top selling online marketplaces globally & they’re not top 2 either.
