It’s time to get rid of the old & make some room for the new! Today is National Clean Your Desk Day! And as we recognize it as an opportunity to clean off you desk, I thought it’d also be a great time to clean up some other area in our lives too. With more of us working from home, there’s areas we use everyday, that we never seem to sort through. Whether it’s a storage space, a device we use, or even an online service, there’s any areas in our lives that just collect clutter! I put together 4 simple steps you can do to clean out some areas in our lives most of us use daily. Areas that could use a good clean out. Although these tips might not be the answer to all your problems, a lil clean out never hurt anyone, right?
Here’s 4 Simple Ways To Refresh Your Life In 2021!
Re-Organize Your Closet
This one seems too good to be true, but it’s one of the better areas to start with! Every year, we all fall victim of impulse shopping, or even consuming fast fashion. A closet purge is a great way to clear out unused, lightly worn items that you probably don’t even remember having. It could be merch from an artist you don’t even listen to anymore, a tv shirt of your favorite show that doesn’t even fit like it used to, or even an old school crewneck from college, or even worse - high school…. It’s time to purge through the closet & see what’s good to keep,& what needs to be tossed.
Another great thing about purging out your closet is not only visually seeing what you don’t like anymore, but also seeing if there’s anything you’re okay to get rid of that’s still in good shape. There’s a lot of ways to donate your clothes, whether is be a local shelter or Good Will, or even sell back to a thrift store. You can even sell your store virtually through websites like Depop or Grailed! There’s a ton of third party outlets that will take your lightly worn clothes, to repurpose them. It’s a great way to kick off the new year!
Sort Through Your Music
This one is rarely done, but in my opinion, it’s one that should be done annually. Cleaning out your music can seem like a very tedious task, especially if you’re anything like me and have THOUSAND of songs + artist to choose from. But this can also really help free up some storage space for future more music you like. It can also save you some future embarrassment from having that song that you loved when you were 12, play out loud.
Go through whichever music source you use, and sort through all your music. And I mean ALL your music! Pick a day where you can sit down, play a couple seconds of a song you don’t fully remember & see if you’re still feeling it or not. That way, if it doesn’t feel nostalgic, you can just delete it & be done with it. This is also a great time to update some old playlists you’ve created too! You’ll feel refreshed, when you’re tunes are refreshed too!
Re-Evaluate All Your Subscriptions
Every year, everyone tries to get ahold of their finances & real hone down on their spending habits. A great place to start with this is your subscription services! In today’s age, there’s subscriptions for LITERALLY EVERYTHING!! Whether it’s tv streaming, music streaming, or even lifestyle services like sending you new vitamins every 3 months, or new brush heads for your electric toothbrush. It’s almost impossible to get around life without at least being signed up for one subscription. But with so many, we sometime forget what we’re even subscribed to! That’s why, it’s good to make a list of all the subscriptions you have + what they cost, & determine which services you actually use regularly or daily. See which services you can potentially live without. It’s a great way to not only revise your spending - but save a lil more $$ in your pocket, with less subscriptions!
Clean Out Your Phone
I feel like this one goes without saying, but for some, this one will truly be the hardest. It’s time to clean out your phone homie… We’ve all been there. You go to take another picture or video, and your phone tells you ‘you don’t have any storage space’, so you frantically try to delete photos you don’t need & you go back to see you’ve only really saved 1.2GB. It’s time to do a thorough look through of your mobile device!
Before deleting things off your phone, do a backup first, so if you delete anything by accident, you can retrieve it later. Also, If you have a macbook, use iphotos to help store your photos and videos throughout the years on a local device. Then, go through on your phone & delete photos + videos you don’t randomly need. Additionally, go through your phone & delete old apps you don’t use anymore, as well as old contacts to. Whether it’s an ex friend, old college friend or co-worker from your old job from three years ago you no longer talk to anymore, it’s time to let go. Delete the contact & make room for meeting new people! Once you’ve sorted through your phone, do a fresh, new backup & voila! You’ve got more space & bringing in better energy into the new year!
And there you have it! Those are my 4 simple steps to refreshing your life, going into 2021! All of these are super simple, and yet super effective, as these are things we generally interact with on a daily basis. It should help with decluttering your space, and making room for new moment & more memories for this year!
