😎☕️ We BOSSIN’ UP in 2020! 😎☕️
Idk about you, but I’ve been in a 2020 mindset for a minute now. I genuinely look forward to the new year & being able to have a fresh start. This year, I wanted to start
a little early. Looking back at last year, I’m really proud of the work I put in, whether it’s blogging, social media, creativity, brands I’ve connected with. I’m also very proud of the personal growth I went through last year as well! I conquered a lot of my anxiety issues.
I haven’t traveled in over 5 years & went on TWO big trips! I made some great new friends & also left my job that I wasn’t so happy in & found a new job! Though I’m not
a full time creator just yet, I’m still very proud of the many things I was able to
accomplish in 2019.
Going into 2020, for me, it’s all about GOALS! I’m proud & happy where I’m at
right now, but I’m striving for more! I know i’m not there yet, but i’m oh so close.
This year, is all about how I can be a BOSS. I’ve made a way for myself, and set up a great spot for myself as well, but the journey isn’t over. It’s time to make moves & really show the world (and you guys) what I’ve got to offer. And i’m sure i’m not alone.
I wanted to create a post for you guys & share some tips on how to be your OWN BOSS in 2020! A lot of you are just as creative as me, and I feel like our generation has such a great entrepreneur mindset. Whether it’s fashion, photography, marketing, spots journalism, or anything DIY, whatever it is, we’re ALL hustlin’ out here & trying to make. I believe in you! So I wanted to share some strong tips to keep in mind & help get you on the right track to being an absolute B O S S !
Self Assess Yourself, to Self CORRECT Yourself
If you’re going to be a BOSS in 2020, you’ve gotta start asking yourself some key questions.
"How am I going to be a boss?” “What do I want to be a boss in?” “How can I be a boss”.
Those are great starting questions. If you really want to be your own boss, you’ve got to pull yourself aside & have some time to really self reflect. And you need to think hard enough to also answer your own questions. You want to be a boss? Ok, HOW are you going to get there? What are the skills you’ll need to be a boss? What are the material things you need to be a boss? How are people going to know you’re a boss? Who can you connect with to be a boss??
Really dig deep & come up with an answer to these questions.
Find a Routine That Works For You - and Stick With It!
Don’t like planning? Yes, routines AREN’T for everyone. But do you think bosses don’t know a product launch date?
Or don’t know when a holiday is coming up to put focus on any of their products? NO! Bosses plan ahead
& know what’s coming up, before it comes up.
To really get whatever it is you want to get into off the ground, you need to give yourself time to put that action into work. And by giving yourself enough time, you need to schedule some time to get your work done. If you have a 9-5 job, give yourself from 7-9 to at least plan out, or execute your goal or work plan. One thing that really helped me when I was starting my blog was I put forth a couple hours a day, to work on future blog posts. And instead of launching my blog right away, I gave myself a deadline. I started in January & I said by June, I want to launch of website. That way, I wasn’t stressed out for time, but I gave myself a realistic deadline, that I could abide by. That way, if I couldn’t launch my website by June, it’s because “I” didn’t stick to a schedule / routine. Once you find a flow that works for you, you’ll be glad
you did!
Prioritize Your Time
Life CAN get pretty crazy! Whether you have work work, or a side hustle, or you’re in a league, or hangout with friends often - life, can get pretty busy. That’s why, prioritizing your time & your work needs to be your main mindset. If you have a plan to launch something two weeks, do you really have time to go to the cottage for a weekend with friends?
I’m not saying prioritizing your time is sacrificing your time, but if you do make plans, make sure you’re accounting for the time you need for yourself, to work on your hustle! Being a boss is also taking ownership. When you’re a boss, you really don’t have anyone to blame, but yourself.
One thing that helps me is giving myself deadlines. If I know a holiday or a current event is coming up, I want to create content around that date. That date will be my deadline. If I haven’t finished creating the content prior or on that current event date, I now have to scarp that project piece, which was now a waste of my time. So I need to work diligently & effectively, without overdoing it. It can be hard to get content out, especially in a world where everyone wants something FAST & RN! But prioritizing, planning & organizing my time helps me best & will definitely help you too!
Trust Yourself!
Often times, when taking the leap to be your own boss, we suddenly get into this feeling of self-doubt. This especially often happens when things don’t go according to plan, or when we don’t get the feedback we were hoping for.
When in doubt - TRUST YOURSELF!!
If there’s an idea, concept or project you want to create & put out there - DO IT ! They really weren’t lying when they said the hardest part IS starting! I’m not sure who they are, but they’re 100% right! Trust & believe in yourself, & try seeking less validation from others. Yes, asking friends for their opinion on your work can sometimes be fine, but if it’s work your proud of, be proud of it when you share! Instead of asking “Is this good enough?” ask more in a “How can I make this better” type of way! Trust me - you’ll be glad you did!
Don’t’ Forget To Self-Care!!!!
Creatives everywhere can probably admit that most times when we’re immersed into our work, our craft, our side hustle, we forget the simple, daily human essentials like drinking water, or eating, or most importantly, sleeping !!! And if you think i’m joking - I’m not… When working on a project, it’s easy to get caught up once those creative juices start flowing. But it’s important to remember that above all, YOU come first!
There’s times I find myself editing past 12am, and then I realize I need to get some sleep. The worst thing that could happen would be spending all night editing, uploading the video & then watching the video with a whole bunch of editing mistakes, or forgetting to include an image, or sounds effect in the video, that would have made it so much better. When creating & getting a tons of work done, remember there is a work / life balance & in order for your work to take care of you, you have to have a clear mindset in order to take care of your work.
Understand Your Role
A big part of what I’ve found in being your own boss is Understanding The Role You Play, as well as the market your in. For me, coming into this blogger world worked out & made sense, but there’s a lot of work I needed to put in to even be close to being “up there”. As well as being in the blogging industry, I have to understand the influence I have & can have on people. No one would take me seriously as a fashion blogger if I didn’t have good style. Or no one would listen to my “influence” if I endorsed something that didn’t make sense to the blogging industry or my brand (myself).
When being your own boss, you’ve got to understand your importance of what you’re in charge of. If I didn’t plan out content for my audience, I wouldn’t be a boss of anything, because I wouldn’t have any flow of traffic. Understanding your role in what you’re going to be a boss of, not only helps your business or brand, but it truly helps it run.
These past few years I’ve really learnt a lot. I felt like the last decade just flew by & although I did a bunch of great things, I know there’s some much more I need to do to create something bigger than myself. There’s so much potential with our generation, & a lot of us want to be our own bosses. A lot of what I’ve learned was through trial & error. I wanted to create a post to really help & inspire you guys to create whatever it is you’re thinking of creating & just DO IT!
Don’t go through another decade thinking “Maybe I’ll start this thing”. START IT! And watch what it can
become by 2030!
In addition to these tips to help you be a boss, I wanted to share some BOSSES that influence me as well!
They’ve worked hard & created some things bigger than themselves! These are the BOSSES I look up to!
I hope you guys enjoyed this post! I wanted to kick off the new year with a little bit more inspiration, rather than your normal fashion content post. But don’t worry, there IS some fashion content on the way!!!
