Ok, I’m DEFINITELY coming down with ‘missing the homies’…

We’re on week 4 of social distancing, & I’ve gotta say - the hardest part for me is not being able to see my friends. But, the one work around my squad and I have found, was connecting online. Yes, with social media we already connect online, but during these distancing times, it means a lot more when you can SEE someone. And that’s been the popular trend everyone has hopped on recently.

In the past couple weeks, a bunch of us have signed up for Zoom, or tried to configure our old high school Skype password. This is how a lot of us have stayed in contact with close friends, to see what everyone’s been up to during this time. Both apps have been great ways to keep in contact with others, without physically seeing your friends & facing an up to a thousand dollar fine.

I wanted to share some popular online apps, games & chats that I’ve been personally using, to help keep you & your squad connected. These times are tough. Though we can’t physically be there for each other, we’re still in this together & can still share stories,
great moments & just catch up. Here’s some great ways to connect
with your friends online!

Still wanna have Movie Night with the squad? Well with Netflix Party you can continue the friendly tradition!
This Google Chrome extension allows friends to watch the same movie or tv show, and chat as if they were sitting beside each other in the theatres again! All you have to do to get the party started is download the extension onto Google Chrome. Once added, go to your Netflix account & select a movie or tv show to watch. Once you’ve decided on what to view, create a viewing party! Click on the NP icon, select “Start Party” & invite your friends by sharing the URL with them. Once they click on the link & select NP, their netflix will sync with the film or show you’ve all decide on. You can watch anything in Netflix catalogue, so you’ve got loads of options to choose from! Keep Movie Night alive with this crowd favourite extension!

If you’ve ever played Cards Against Humanity with your squad, you KNOW it’s always a fun time! Now, even in quarantine, you can keep the fun time rolling by playing it online! To start, create an online room & invite your friends by giving them the unique room code you’re givin. Once you’ve shared the code with the gang, you can set up the room as you would if you were side by side. Though all the cards appear on the screen, only your screen can see your deck, so don’t worry about anyone stealing your cards! Use Skype or Zoom to see all your friends while you play & share your answers! Just because we’re stuck inside, doesn’t mean the fun has to stop! Grab some snacks. Grab a drink & keep the friday night vibes going!

UNO

This quarantine feels like we’ve had to pick up +4 every week… Instead of reminiscing on playing Uno with your pals, play it online, using your phone! UNO is an app available on both Apple & Android. You can connect with friends at anytime & anywhere in the world! You can play 1 on 1 or on a team 2 vs 2! One great feature I love is you don’t miss out when it’s time to yell “UNO!”. Simply yell into your phone & all our friends will know they lost this round.

Still looking to party it up with the gang?!? Houseparty is the app you want to download then!! This app is treated more like a new social media app then just another Skype or Zoom chat website. On this app, you’re encouraged to spend time virtually seeing the people you care about. It’s super easy & quick to sign into. Sign-in using your phone (Apple or Android), or if you have a Macbook you can download the app from that appstore. Or you can use Google Chrome! Start a conversation by waving to get your friends attention, or if you’re late to the party, tap join to start chatting away with all your friends! What makes this app cooler than all the others is you can leave voice messages for your friends, or even play games with them right in the app. They have games like: Heads Up, Trivia, Chips & Guac and Quick Draw!
Keep the party rolling on a friday night with the squad!

If you’ve never played Jackbox before, you & your friends are bound to fall in love! It’s such a funny game to play with a group of friends & it can get super competitive thinking of the best answers to some of the games. Though it’s a game you have to purchase ($24.99 - $12.49), once someone has bought the game, simply invite everyone to play using their own phones & going to Jackbox.tv . User then put in the exclusive room code to join the game. Once in, have one person host the game screen & have everyone sign into Skype or Zoom to be able to see & play off that screen.
Once everyone’s in the room, you’ll see how crazy this game can REALLY get!!!

Mario Kart needs no introduction. This was one of my favourite games growing up & definitely so much fun when playing with friends! With the new mobile app available for both Apple & Android, it’ll feel like old times beating each others score & seeing who’s in the lead! The one benefit you have here is you won’t be watching the wrong screen, which can happen when playing on the tv. That’s a PLUS, I’d say!

Now this app is for anyone 19+, or 21 and older. It’s a fun game that will get the whole squad pretty LITTTTTT.
Drunk Pirate is literally the easiest way to get drunk! Get all your friends on a Skype or Zoom chat, and have one player share their screen so everyone can see the card. Click the cards, and whatever the cards say, that player (or sometimes playerS) drinks! This game can definitely get a little crazy, so make sure you’re drinking responsibly! It’s great that we’re all in our own homes, but being responsible doesn’t go away, no matter the pandemic. Have fun though!

And that’s it! Those are the games online you can play, or use to connect with your friends! I know this quarantine isn’t easy for everyone, especially us extroverts that feed off of hanging with friends. But just because we’re not physically with others, doesn’t mean we still can’t feed off that energy virtually!

Whether you’ve already been connecting with your friends using these apps, or can bring some of these apps up as a suggestion to the group chat, I hope you enjoyed today’s post! If there’s anything you really loved, or if there’s an even better online game I forgot to mention, let me know! I always LOVE hearing from you guys! Feel free to TWEET me, write me on Facebook, or shoot me a DM on Instagram! Let’s chat!
